Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA Kaltim) - East Kalimantan's exports rose 12.39 percent in October to US$1.2 billion (Rp16.25 trillion) from the previous month, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said on Thursday.
Head of the provincial office of BPS M Habibullah attributed the increase in the export earning to a strong growth in the exports of oil and gas and other commodities.
Habibullah said the province exported US$330 million worth of oil and gas in October or an increase of 13.83 percent from the previous months and US$930 million worth of other commodities or an increase of 11.89 percent from September.
However, cumulatively from January until October, 2016, the exports of the province dropped year-on-year, he said.
"The January-October period, East Kalimantan's exports were valued at US$11.11 billion or down 25.11 percent from the same period in 2015," he said.
Oil and gas accounted for US$3.17 billion of its total exports in the first 10 months of the year or a decline of 42.04 percent year-on-year.
East Kalimantan's international trade favored the province with a surplus of US$1.03 billion in October, up from US$850 million in September in the same year. (*)
