Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA Kaltim) - Home Affairs Minister Tjahyo Kumolo inaugurated Maratua Airport in Maratua Island, Berau district, East Kalimantan province.

"The airport now can be operated," the minister said in Maratua on Thursday.

The Minister said according to the government`s Nawacita (the nine goals) program, Maratua airport is in line with the national development goals.

The airport can change the face of Indonesia`s border areas to the better, he said.

Moreover, Maratua is a tourist area, so the presence of the airport is believed to be able to accelerate the economic development for the locals.

He said the airport will trigger a number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit Maratua.

Maratua airport has a runway of 1,400 meters long.
