Samarinda, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Land transport was totally cut on Wednesday night between Samarinda and Bontang in East Kalimantan following rain triggered floods inundating the highway.

Heavy rain hit Samarinda and surrounding areas since Wednesday afternoon, a villager , Karyono, said.

"Rain began to pour on 17.30 local time . Many workers have not returned home until past 08.30 apparently because of transport problem," Karyono said.

The water pools are quite deep that no motor vehicles in the main road could pass, he said.

In a city`s main road a car trying to get through stalled blocking the road for other vehicles.

The flood did not immediately recede even after the rain had stopped as big waters still were flowing from hilly areas of Gunung Alayah and Gunung Lingai.

It took at least an hour before the road could be safe from motor vehciles, Karyono said.  (*)
