Balikpapan, E.Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - East Kalimantan Governor, Awang Faroek Ishak, said the provincial government is planning to cooperate with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) in the field of forest rehabilitation.
"The environmental conservation institution from Norway can cooperate with us, especially for forest rehabilitation," Ishak said on Tuesday.
He hoped that NORAD would support the environmental preservation programs related to the biodiversity preservation.
"East Kalimantan has a vast land area has immense biodiversity potential," Ishak stated.
In addition, East Kalimantan is also known for its wet tropical forests, which are rich in biodiversity and water and are unique.
"We have been cooperating with REDD+ for conservation and environmental protection. We need to make coordinate with various institutions, especially for the protection of nature and biodiversity and need to optimize such efforts," Ishak added.
A climate change counselor from the Embassy of Norway, Rannveig Formo, said he was very impressed by the commitment of and the efforts made by the provincial administration for rescuing and preserving the environment, in anticipation of climate change.
"We are very impressed with the efforts made by the Governor for the preservation of the environment and saving natural resources. The program has been very progressive and impressive," Formo said. (*)
