Samarinda, E. Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Food processing industry dominated foreign investment (PMA) in East Kalimantan in the first quarter of this year.
Foreign investment in the food processing industry was valued around US$94.27 million or 48.5 percent of the total value of PMA in the region in the first three months of the year, head of the capital investment office of East Kalimantan Diddy Rusdiansyah said here on Sunday.
Major contributors to foreign investment in the province during the three months period included other service sectors in which foreign investment was valued at US$52.01 million, and in mining sector US$32.32 million.
Altogether, there were 12 sectors in which foreign companies also invested until the end of the first quarter of this year.
Until March, 2018, foreign investments in East Kalimantan totaled US$194.37 million or around Rp2.6 trillion.
Investment in the forestry sector is the largest provider of jobs employing 3,080 workers or 44.89 percent of the total number of workers employed by PMA in the province. Food processing industry employed 1,320 workers or 19.24 percent. (*)
