Samarinda, E Kalimantan (Antaranews Kaltim) - Indonesia`s fencing team collected three silver medals at the Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) junior and cadet championships at OCM Indoor Sport Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Fencing national team manager Muslimin stated, when contacted on Saturday, that the three silver medals were from Anis Rohadatul in the women`s junior degen event, Yusuf in the men`s junior floret, and Iqbal in the men`s junior sabel event.

" Rohadatul almost won a gold medal, but unfortunately, she had to surrender to Vietnamese fencer Tran Thi Thuy Trinh 15-9," he noted.

Besides silver medals, the national team also won a bronze medal, from Geby Novita in the women`s junior degen event.

"In the previous match, Novita won a gold medal in the women`s junior cadet degen, but unfortunately, she could only win a bronze when she appeared in the junior class," he remarked.

So far, the national team has collected one gold medal, three silver medals, and four bronze medals, Muslimin explained.

The gold medal was the first for the Indonesian national team since its first participation in the SEAFF championships in 2010 in Brunei Darussalam.

"This means that fencing has progressed positively in Indonesia, with most of the athletes are still within cadet and junior age bracket, and so we will rely on them for a number of international events," he asserted.

He added that the chance to collect more medals is still big, especially from the group events.

"We are optimistic that we will add more gold medals from the women`s group degen events scheduled on Sunday," he pointed out. (*)
