Samarinda, E.Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The administration of Samarinda City, East Kalimantan Province, has been successfully selected to be part of the "Towards 100 Smart City Indonesia Movement" under which the cities will provide digital-based public services.

"Samarinda cleared an assessment and was elected to participate in the 100 Smart City Indonesia Movement," Head of Samarinda City`s Communication and Informatics Office Aji Syarif Hidayatullah stated here on Monday.

The movement is being initiated in 25 districts and cities as a pilot project that will gradually provide digital-based public services.

The assessment results are determined by 21 jury members, covering several aspects of policy, Information and Communication Technology human resources and infrastructure, public services applications, administration and general management, legislation administration, development management, financial management, personnel management, and budget support commitments.

Based on the decision of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, on May 5, 2017, Samarinda cleared the selection process and was chosen to be part of the program.

"Of course, this is a matter of pride, as Samarinda has been selected for the Ministry of Communications and Informatics` programs, which means declaring that the city is ready to implement the smart city (concept) and work together and synergize with the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, central government, and other local administrations," Hidayatullah noted.

If Samarinda successfully implements the smart city concept, then it will serve as a reference for the development of smart cities across the nation.

In addition to Samarinda, 25 district and cities have cleared the smart city selection process: Semarang City in Central Java, Banyuwangi in East Java, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Gresik in East Java, Purwakarta in West Java, Jambi City, Bojonegoro Regency in East Java, and Kutai Kartanegara Regency in East Kalimantan.

"Samarinda Mayor Syaharie Jaang has, on several occasions, voiced support for the smart city (concept) by prioritizing the program to educate people and establishing the Communications and Information Technology Office that is expected to serve as a driving force of the program," Hidayatullah added.
