Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA Kaltim) - The Provincial administration of East Kalimantan is drafting strategy to build an industrial estate in a bid to boost sustainable economic growth in the "Vision of East Kalimantan Awakening in 2018.

"The provincial administration has drafted a policy to boost its economic growth under a mid term development vision to transform East Kalimantan into a leading Center of Agro industry and Energy," East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak, said here on Wednesday.

In implementing the program, East Kalimantan will adopt two strategies - developing existing industry such as oil refinery , fertilizer, gas, coal mining, and crude palm oil (CPO) industries ; and developing farm based industrial estate.

"The two strategies will be the start of economic transformation in East Kalimantan from the present system relying largely on non-renewable resource based economy to one based more on renewable resources," the governor said.

He said development of sector without integration with other sector would be less productive and would not able to reduce gap between regions.

"It is important to consider the aspect of local potentials in regional development to utilize the potentials fully for the welfare of the people," he said, adding area development would reduce the economic gap between regions.

Development approach to be adopted by East Kalimantan toward creating its vision of green and sustainable economy would need development of industrial estates, he said.

He said the industrial estate should be one to utilize local potentials and resources with the support of sufficient infrastructure, he added. (*)
