Samarinda, East Kalimantan (ANTARA Kaltim) - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya is scheduled to inaugurate the Borneo Cultural Festival organized by the East Kalimantan Culture and Tourism Office on September 2-6, 2015.

"Scheduled to be held at Madya Sempaja Stadium, the festival will be inaugurated by the tourism minister on September 2," East Kalimantan Culture and Tourism Office Chief and the Borneo Festival Committee Chairman HM Aswin noted here on Tuesday.

He remarked that the minister is scheduled to inaugurate the festival after which he will open a regional coordination meeting on tourism destination that will be attended by participants from numerous regions across Indonesia.

Aswin expressed hope that the tourism minister would obtain firsthand information about East Kalimantan`s tourism potential and would help promote it widely.

"We hope that through the Borneo Cultural Festival, the number of both domestic and foreign tourist arrivals in East Kalimantan would increase as the event is part of our support to the government to realize the target of 20 million tourist arrivals by 2018," he emphasized.

The Borneo Cultural Festival is an annual agenda of the local culture and tourism office and a weeklong celebration of food, music, and dance, traditional art and cultural performances, and a carnival to celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds in the province.

Besides the art and cultural ambassadors from different districts, the festival will also be attended by representatives from North, South, and Central Kalimantan.

"The festival will attract more than one thousand participants, and most of them have arrived in Samarinda," he noted. (*)
