Samarinda, E Kalimantan (Antaranews) - East Kalimantan recorded a surplus of US$2.2 billion in its foreign trade in the first two months of the year.

The province exported US$2.76 billion as against imports of only US$675.61 million in the January-February period, head of the regional Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) office Atqo Mardiyanto said here on Thursday.

The exports from the province were dominated by coal, oil and gas accounting for US$2.69 billion. Coal alone contributed US$2.19 billion to the total export value with oil and gas contributing US$502.64 million.

Its main export commodities other than coal and oil and gas include vegetable and animal fat and oil , timber and timber products, organic chemicals and fertilizer.

In East Kalimantan there is a large urea fertilizer factory owned by the state.

The main countries of destination for oil and gas are Japan, South Korea , Singapore and Taiwan and Thailand.

Non-oil/gas commodities are exported mainly to the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea , India and China.

East Kalimantan imports fertilizers, rubber and rubber goods, nuclear reactor and machinery . (*)
