Samarinda (ANTARA News) - The economy of East Kalimantan grew slightly by 0.04 percent in the second quarter of 2017 from the previous quarter .

Leading the growth were government administration, defense, and obligatory social security, the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

"Government administration, defense and obligatory social security sector grew 14.86 percent in the April June period," head of the regional BPS Muhammad Habibullah said here on Friday.

Positive growth was also recorded in accommodation and food and beverage sector growing 6.56 percent and other service sectors growing 5.14 percent.

The growth in the sectors was attributed mainly to growing consumer demand during the Islamic fasting months and Ied ul Fitri celebrations, and long holidays.

Meanwhile contraction was recorded in the manufacturing sector contracting 2.02 percent, and the mining and quarry sector with a contraction of 1.32 percent.

Exports of the province grew 2.53 percent, its household consumption grew 1.87 percent and gross fixed capital formation grew 0.39 percent. (*)
