Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA Kaltim) - East Kalimantan recorded a surplus of US$3.67 billion (Rp47.82 trillion) in foreign trade in the first quarter of this year.

The province exported US$4.3 billion worth of commodities (Rp55.96 trillion) with imports valued at US$626.49 million in the three months period, head of the East Kalimantan office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) M Habibullah in Samarinda, on Tuesday.

Imports by the province include industrial basic materials and capital goods, Habibullah said.

Exported commodities in the first three months of the year were dominated by mineral fuels including oil and gas valued at US$1.08 billion and coal US$2.9 billion. Other commodities were vegetable and animal fats and oils worth US$113.34 million, inorganic chemicals US$78.54 million, fertilizer US$36.52 million, timber and timber products US$61.42 million and organic chemical US$16.78 million.

The main export destinations for oil and gas included Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore.

Its imports included mineral fuels both oil and gas and non oil/gas machinery , rubber goods, motor vehicles, electric equipment and machines. Imports came from Singapore, China, Japan , the United States, Australia and Europe, etc. (*)
