Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Pusamania Borneo Football Club (PBFC) of East Kalimantan successfully defeated its guest Persib Bandung of West Java 3-2 in the first leg of quarterfinals of the President Cup soccer tournament here on Sunday night.

Persib Bandung went ahead by scoring a goal in the fifth minute, through its player from Montenegro Ilija Spasojevic.

However, a few minutes later the host team managed to equalize the score with goal made by Arpani in 11th minute, and the 1-1 score lasted until the break.

The entry of two new players from Papua namely Tinus Pae and Feri Pahabol as applied by PBFC coach Iwan Setiawan, evidently yielded positive results for his team.

The entry of two new players, let PBFC striker Boaz Salosa moved freely to penetrate the defense of Persib Bandung team.

In the 68th minute, Boaz scored through a hard kick by left leg outside the penalty box.

Three minutes later, Boaz doubled the host team`s scores.

The two goals down did not make Persib Bandung squad discouraged, instead Persib continued to improve its attack in order to reduce the host team`s victory.

Persib Bandung`s effort was finally fruitful when defender Vladimir Vujovic scored a goal in 82nd minute.

After two minutes of extra time given by the referee Iwan Sukaca, the score 3-2 for the host advantage remained until the long sound of whistle.

Eight of 16 teams in the President Cup which play in the quarter-finals comprise Mitra Kukar of East Kalimantan, PSM Makassar of South Sulawesi, Arema Malang of East Java, and Bali United of Bali province, apart from Persebaya United of East Java, Sriwijaya FC of South Sumatra, Pusamania Borneo of East Kalimantan, and Persib Bandung of West Java.

The other eight teams that failed in the preliminary rounds are Persija Jakarta, Persita Tangerang, Persiba Balikpapan, and Martapura FC, in addition to Persela, PSGC Ciamis, PBR, and Persegres. (*)
