Samarinda (Antaranews Kaltim) - Exports by East Kalimantan dropped 7.25 percent to US$1.52 billion in November from US$1.64 billion in the previous month.
"The export commodities of East Kalimantan include mineral fuels , farm products, and manufactured goods," head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Muhammad Habibullah said here on Wednesday.
Exports of mineral fuels in November included oil and gas and coal were valued at US$1.42 billion down 6.42 percent from US$1.52 billion in the previous month.
Exports of animal and vegetable oils and fast were valued at US$46.08 million down 30.62 percent from US$66.41 million in the previous month.
Exports of inorganic and organic chemicals were valued at US$21.95 million in November up 45.91 percent from US$15.05 million in the previous month.
Exports of timber and timber products including charcoal were valued at US$19.26 million or up 46.76 percent from US$13.13 million in the previous month.
Exports of fertilizer were valued at US$2.62 million and various chemical products US$1.59 million .
The main countries of destination for exports included Japan to which exports were valued at US$153.24 million , Taiwan US$63.61 million, China US$29.58 million, Malaysia US$19.33 million and Singapore US$14.67 million.
The economy of East Kalimantan, one of the country`s richest in natural resources, was estimated to grow 3-3.4 percent in 2017.
The growth is higher than last year but much lower than the country`s economic growth , which is estimated to be more than 5 percent this year.
The economic growth was driven by commodity price hikes since late last year mainly coal. East Kalimantan`s economy is more export oriented .
According to data at the Mineral and Coal Directorate General, the coal benchmark price surged 35.6 percent in 2017 compared with in 2016.
Currently the economy of East Kalimantan is still dominated by the mining sector with 46 percent share followed by the manufacturing industry 19 percent and farming 8 percent. (*)
